EDHEC Global MBA Business Trip - South Africa

The theme of the first Global Business Trip is Sustainable Development and sees all Global MBA participants traveling together to Cape Town in South Africa. South Africa represents one of the most dynamic economies on the African continent and forms part of the BRICSA group of countries. Cape Town is an exciting, cosmopolitan hub which has long led the way for integration within South African society.

This week-long study trip is undertaken in partnership with the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), South Africa's pre-eminent business school. The aim of the business trip is to give participants an opportunity to understand the specificities of the South African business environment and its ever-changing dynamics from close proximity.

This business trip is comprised of a range of class-based lectures presented by local experts at the University of Stellenbosch Business School complemented by a varied program of onsite company visits. Each business trip also includes time for MBA participants to gain a firsthand understanding of local culture and cuisine and of course to see some of the amazing tourist sites Cape Town has to offer.

Below provides an example of the sorts of activities Global MBA participants have undertaken during past trips to Cape Town:

  • Sightseeing tour - Table Mountain, Cape Point and the V&A Waterfront district.
  • Class-based Lectures - Economics in South Africa: Past, Present & Future; Leadership & Change in South Africa; Marketing Segmentation & Branding in South Africa; Value-Based Management; Social Entrepreneurship.
  • Company Visits - Sustainable Development Through Best Practice & Community Engagement (Backsberg Winery); Power Generation Alternatives (Koeberg Nuclear Power Station); Sustainable Waste & Energy Management (Sustainability Institute); Competing in South Africa's Retail Environment (MassMart)
